How to get the most out of a patent search – with and without AI

The transformation of search strategies

Patent searching is undergoing a transformation. Basic searches or preexisting searches in many cases are performed with the help of AI. The remaining task for professional searches consists in finding better material still. This can be done both with and without AI. In this context several AI tools are used in parallel and are evaluated according to both documents retrieved and the precision of retrieval. Recall of AI-tools is measured against a total of AI and non-AI-retrieved documents. The difference between AI-retrieved documents and additional relevant documents is analyzed to develop best search strategies, which are presented here. In addition to elaborating on the performance aspects of AI and non-AI tools, the role of data security in the context of tool selection will also be considered.
